FBC Ministries

Christian Education

Bible Studies:

Provides direction and education for adult and youth classes. Bible Studies meet on Wednesday evenings. Adults begin Prayer and Praise at 7:00pm. Adult Class begins at 7:30pm. Youth classes begin at 7:00pm. The last Wednesday of the month is"Jeopardy Night" – a time of food, fun, and fellowship with dinner and a fun game of bible jeopardy for all classes combined.

  • Children’s Class: provides age appropriate direction and education for children grades K-5 with fun, games, and audio/visual aids.
  • Teenager Class: provides direction and education for grades 7-12 class. Students will journey through structured biblical courses/bible series to obtain and apply biblical knowledge to a personal Christian discipleship.
  • Adult Class: provides direction and education for Adults. The adults will journey through structured biblical courses/bible series to obtain and apply biblical knowledge to a personal Christian discipleship.

Christian Education:

Provides oversight for the organization and delivery of Christian Education programs for the church. Facilitates annual church-wide leadership training and development, as well as developing plans for educational retreats. The Christian Education Ministry meets on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 7:00pm. All church members are welcomed/encouraged to attend/join this ministry.

Education Aid:

Manages the church’s scholarship program and provides support where needed to youth/adults applying for college scholarships and other financial aid.  All church members are welcomed/encouraged to attend/join this ministry.

Sunday School:

provides Christian Education and learning through a series of biblically based classes designed for all age and generational groups. Classes are held every Sunday morning from 9:45 – 10:45 am. The Sunday School Ministry also takes the lead in coordinating the church’s annual week-long Vacation Bible School. All church members are welcomed/encouraged to attend/join this ministry.

Tutorial:

This ministry offers tutorial services in virtually all scholastic endeavors, including Math, English, and help with writing the ‘all important’ Prince William County “Term Paper.” This ministry encourages members skilled in scholastic tutoring and willing to invest in the life of a student to become a partner in the ministry. Students gain valuable homework assistance and learn valuable study techniques to increase academic performance and achieve learning goals. Tutoring sessions are held at the church facilities throughout the school year. Sessions are generally 1-on-1.
Church members are welcomed/encouraged to attend/join this ministry.

Congregational Care

Culinary:

This ministry assists, plans, procures, and serves many of the church’s culinary offerings during church-wide and community functions (e.g. repasts, dinners, cookouts, luncheons, etc). From managing the kitchen to organizing meal deliveries, it is our goal to help you enjoy the culinary delights prepared and served in a most efficient and productive form of service ministry.
All church members are welcomed/encouraged to join this ministry.

Health and Wellness:

Provides health screenings, flu vaccinations, and educational health related seminars and information to the local church body and greater community at large. It also coordinates and promotes the church’s participation in local cancer fundraising, as well as promotes healthy lifestyles through exercise classes, nutritional food preparation classes, and free monthly blood pressure checks and seasonal flu vaccinations. The Health and Wellness Ministry meets on 2nd Tuesday of each month at 7:00pm. All church members are welcomed/encouraged to attend/join this ministry.

 

Koinonia:

Is a ministry developed to promote social engagement and communication throughout the congregation by organizing the entire membership into small groups. The ultimate objective is to create an environment that will encourage relationship building among the church family. Small groups will consist of 30 to 40 families with established leadership teams who work alongside deacon leadership to plan organize, and facilitate small group functions (outings, discussions, picnics, works of service, etc.).

Little Star:

Provides activities and support for single parent families and send cards to the individual church members who are sick or confined. The Little Star Ministry meets on the 2nd Monday of each month at 6:30pm. All church members are welcomed/encouraged to attend/join this ministry.

Marshall D. Williams:

Provides assistance (along with the Young Adult Fellowship) in maintaining updated historical records and assists in the annual salute of First Pastor Marshall D. Williams. The ministry also coordinates the annual congregational Service awards. All church members are welcomed/encouraged to attend/join this ministry.

Pastoral Care Counseling:

Provides caring support and assistance to those dealing with a variety of crisis, difficulties help navigate life challenges (personal, family, etc.) through biblical lay counseling. The Pastoral Care Counseling Ministry meets 2nd Friday of each month at 7:00pm. Church members with a desire to help others are welcomed/encouraged to attend/join this ministry. Extensive training will be provided.

Transportation:

Promotes church attendance to worship services and many other events and programs (on-site and off-site) by providing safe and reliable transportation to and from church and church-related endeavors and ministry events.
The Transportation Ministry meets 4th Tuesday of each month at 6:30pm. All church members interested in driving or assisting are welcomed/encouraged to attend/join this ministry.

Tuesday Mid-Day Prayer:

This ministry promotes fellowship and worship through prayer, praise and worship in the middle of the week and is conducted on Tuesdays at 11:30am. All members, guests, neighbors, strangers and friends are welcomed to attend and participate.

Ushers:

Promotes a welcoming atmosphere and provides Christian assistance during worship services by welcoming worshippers as they arrive to and depart from worship service. Youth and adults participate in this worthwhile ministry. The Ushers also travel with the Senior Pastor during preaching engagements that involve the entire church body. The Ushers Ministry meets 2nd Saturday of each month at 12:00 noon for Junior Ushers and 1:00pm for Senior Ushers. All church members are welcomed/encouraged to attend/join this ministry.

Family Life

Couples:

This ministry provides fellowship, development, and mentoring opportunities and biblical studies on biblical marriage that aids in the development of biblical intimacy and biblical relationship with Christ, with spouse or those in a committed relationship according to God’s Word. This ministry organizes fellowship dinners, outings, programs, events, teachings, and monthly discussion sessions This ministry coordinates participation and enrollment in the annual “Family Life Weekend to Remember” Marriage Conference held in Reston, Virginia. The Couples Ministry meets 4th Friday of the month at 7:00pm. All couples are welcomed/encouraged to join this ministry.

Family Life:

This ministry provides assistance in nurturing the spiritual, emotional and social needs of individuals, couples and families who constitute the life and fabric of fellowship in the church through coordination of events, programs, retreats and special services that are intentional in ministering to all aspects of the church body. When the church ministers to the needs of families as Christ did, they are restored to wholeness. Families who feel complete, and have harmonious relationships, are more likely to be dedicated to God's goals. (Colossians 2:10). The Family Life Ministry meets 1st Tuesday of each month at 7:00pm. All church members are welcomed/encouraged to attend/join this ministry.

 

Mens:

This ministry promotes the spiritual growth and brotherly love among the men (ages 15 and above) of the church. This ministry sponsors programs, events, retreats, and biblical studies opportunities to support the spiritual and practical growth of all young men and men of the church body. The ministry supports our senior population when needing help with basic chores. The ministry aids in helping members when needing assistance in moving/relocating. This ministry provides mentoring opportunities to youth without biblically positive male role models in their daily lives. The Mens Ministry meets on the 2nd Saturday of each month at 8:00am. All Men of the church are encouraged to join this ministry.

Singles\Young Adult Fellowship:

Provides activities and support for single parent families and send cards to the individual church members who are sick or confined. The Singles\Young Adult Ministry meets 2nd Sunday of each month at 1:00pm. All church members are welcomed/encouraged to attend/join this ministry.

Widow/Widowers:

Provides fellowship for church members who have lost a spouse to death. The Widow and Widowers Ministry meets 1st Monday of each month at 5:00pm. All widow/widower church members are welcomed/encouraged to attend/join this ministry.

Women’s:

This ministry promotes the spiritual growth and sisterly love among the women (ages 15 and above) of the church. This ministry sponsors programs, events, retreats, and biblical studies opportunities to support the spiritual and practical growth of all young women and women of the church body. The ministry supports our senior population when needing help with basic chores. The women's ministry develops and engages the youth and young ladies within the church and local community in positive mentoring opportunities for daily christian living. The Women’s Ministry meets on the 1st Saturday of each month at 9:00am. All Women of the church are encouraged to join this ministry.

Leadership/Administration

Deacon:

This ministry provides assistance and support to the Senior Pastor and Pastoral Staff in all aspects of church ministry and leadership. The ministry is active in all church ministries, taking the lead in the visitation of the church’s sick and shut-in, and participates in the various teaching programs of the church. Deacons are selected by the Senior Pastor (with consultation and recommendations from the Deacon Ministry) and elected and ordained by the Senior Pastor and the church body. The Deacon Ministry meets every 2nd Saturday of the month at 10:00am.

Deaconess:

This ministry provides support and assistance to the Senior Pastor and Pastoral Staff and Deacon ministry in various aspects of church ministry and leadership. This ministry is also charged with providing guidance, mentoring, and training for the women of the church body. Deaconess are selected by the Senior Pastor (with consultation and recommendations from the Deaconess Ministry) and elected and consecrated by the Senior Pastor. The Deaconess Ministry meets every 1st Saturday of the month at 11:00am.

Trustees:

This ministry provides support and assistance to the church body by maintaining the church’s properties and overseeing the handling of the church’s finances according to standard accounting practices as it pertains to the functioning of the overall church. Trustees are elected by the church membership to serve identified terms of office at the November church meeting. The Trustee Ministry meets every 2nd Tuesday of the month at 7:00pm.

Media/Communications

Clarion:

The Clarion ministry is a magazine publication of First Baptist Church. The Clarion ministry proposes, plans, and develops a full feature magazine (and companion newsletter) that captures the activities, functions, mission, worship, and purpose of First Baptist Church. The Clarion ministry enriches and inspires the lives of all generations within our church family and greater readership through a myriad of insightful writings, informative articles, creative presentations, and fun activities that continuously moves the Kingdom forward through faith.

Communications:

This ministry is responsible for managing sound and video equipment during worship and program services, as well as providing audio, video, CD and DVD recordings of Sunday Services, weddings, funerals, and other Christian programs and events. The Communication ministry also coordinates all church-related publication and outreach to the Mass Media (television, radio, news print, cable, satellite, and internet). The Communications Ministry meets 3rd Friday of each month at 7:00pm. All church members are welcomed/encouraged to join this ministry.

Computer:

This ministry provides technical support and vision for church ministries regarding the usage and application of the church’s website and on-site computer equipment. The ministry maintains and updates the church’s website and offers computer training classes. The Computer Ministry meets 2nd Thursday of each month at 7:00pm. All church members are welcomed/encouraged to join this ministry.

Missions/Evangelism/Outreach

Emergency Assistance:

This ministry provides assistance to members of the congregation and community with emergency financial assistance and crisis situations. The emergency Assistance Ministry meets 1st Monday in March, June, September, and November at 7:00pm and on an Ad Hoc basis. All church members are welcomed/encouraged to join this ministry.

Evangelism:

This ministry is comprised of individuals who are excited about spreading the Good News (Gospel of Jesus Christ) in the community through identified activities throughout the year. The ministry also conducts an annual evangelism campaign in the surrounding communities, as well as an ecumenical Christian Evangelistic outreach through an evangelistic weekend event (Saturday Only or Saturday/Sunday) with surrounding Christian congregations. All church members are welcomed/encouraged to join this ministry.

Jail & Prison:

This ministry provides Fellowship with and among the local inmate population at the Prince William County/Manassas Adult detention facilities through Bible Study and Worship Services on the 2nd Sundays of each month at 12:30pm. This ministry coordinates with and supports the Good News Jail and Prison Ministry. The Jail & Prison Ministry meets 1st Friday of each quarter at 7:00pm. All church members are welcomed/encouraged to join this ministry.

Missionary:

This ministry assists the senior pastor and church in developing vision for a missionary minded church. It stimulates interest and a commitment of church membership to works of service in support of or immersion into the mission field, modeling ‘Great Commission’ priorities in personal ministry and daily living. This ministry collaborates with various ministries to design and develop a year-round program of mission awareness, education, missional journeys, mission study tours, and mission work projects. This ministry oversees mission service projects (in conjunction with national, regional, and local mission programs or as a sole church event). The Missionary Ministry meets 4th Saturday at 11:00am. All church members are welcomed/encouraged to join this ministry.

Outreach:

This ministry is the coordinated efforts of the Evangelism and Missionary ministries. This ministry includes the “Beyond the Four Walls” Christian ecumenical partnership with local Christian congregations. This ministry recruits, trains, and oversees services and programs that are intentional in reaching out and into the surrounding communities to bring a physical witness and Christian love to our surrounding neighbors of all ages, generations, and cultures. This ministry develops outreach efforts and encourages the congregation to fully participate. The Outreach Ministry meets on an Ad Hoc basis as programs and activities are developed. All church members are welcomed/encouraged to join this ministry.

Music/Praise/Arts

Drama:

This ministry provides opportunities for creative expression among the church body. The Drama ministry prepares dramatic presentations throughout the year with productions for Black History Month, Passion Week, Fall Production, Vacation Bible School skits, Hallelujah Night presentation, and Sunday morning skits advertising upcoming ministry events and programs. All church members are welcomed/encouraged to join this ministry.

Hand and Step Team:

This ministry provides members (Children and Teenage Teams) the opportunity to worship through signing, mime, and coordinated steps. The Teams ministry during Sunday worship and in community events and competitions throughout the year. The Hand and Step Team Ministry meets every Monday of the month at 6:30pm. All children and teenagers are welcomed/encouraged to join this ministry.

  • Children’s:  The Children’s Step Team is for ages 5 – 12 years of age. All children ages 5 – 12 are welcomed/encouraged to join this ministry.
  • Teenagers: The Teenage Step Team is for ages 13 & Up years of age. All Teenagers 13 & Up are welcomed/encouraged to join this ministry.

Music:

The purpose of the Music Ministry is coordinating the music for all church functions, programs, concerts, and worship experiences. This ministry shares the gospel of Jesus Christ through song, encouraging believers in their walk with Christ, while leading the congregation in musical worship. The Music Ministry provides an avenue through which persons may share their musical gifts and talents and become an integral part of the worship experience. The Choirs travel with the Senior Pastor when requested and minister independently at outside church and community services. The Music Ministry also develops and coordinates the various Praise & Worship teams that begin our 11:00am worship services each Sunday.

CHOIRS of the First Baptist Church Music Ministry are as follows:

  • Chancel Choir: This choir is comprised of adult and senior members of the congregation. The Chancel Choir sings on the fourth (4th) Sunday of each month. The Chancel Choir rehearses on the twoTuesdays prior to the 4th Sunday.
  • Combined Choir: This choir is comprised of all adult choirs.  The Combined Choir sings on Homecoming Sunday, Church Anniversary Sunday, New Years Eve Concert, funerals, and other special services.
  • Ensemble Choir: This choir is comprised of adult members of the congregation.  The Ensemble Choir sings for the annual Cantatas (Resurrection Sunday and Christmas).
  • Mens Chorus: This choir is comprised of Men (ages 18 and above).  The Mens Chorus sings on the first (1st) Sunday of each month.  The Mens Chorus rehearses on the two Thursdays prior to the 1st Sunday.
  • Voices of Hope: This Gospel choir is comprised of teenage and adult members of the congregation that sings on the third (3rd) Sunday of each month.  The Voices of Hope rehearse on the two Thursdays prior to the 3rd Sunday.
  • Voices of Tomorrow (Today) "VOTT": This choir is comprised of members of the congregation (ages 13-25). The choir sings at 8:00 am worship service on the second (2nd) Sunday of each month and all 10:30 am fifth (5th) Sundays.  VOTT rehearses the two Saturdays prior to the 2nd Sunday.   VOTT are the Praise & Worship Team prior to 11:00 am worship on 2nd Sundays.
  • Childrens Choir: This choir is comprised of youth of the congregation (5-12 years of age).  The Childrens Choir sings at the 11:00 am worship service on the second (2nd) Sunday of each month.  The Youth Choir rehearses on the Saturdays prior to the 2nd Sunday.

Praise Dance:  

This ministry provides opportunities for creative expression among the church body through organized dance performed during Sunday worship and other church and community programs and events.

  • Youth Praise Dance: The Youth Praise Dance Team is for ages 5 – 18 years of age. The Youth Praise Dance Team meets every Wednesday of the month at 6:30pm. All youth ages 5 – 18 are welcomed/encouraged to join this ministry.
  • Adult Praise Dance: The Adult Praise Dance Team is for adults 18 years of age and above. The Adult Praise Dance Team meets every Monday of the month at 7:00pm.  All adults are welcomed/encouraged to join this ministry.

Recreation

Basketball:

This ministry provides fellowship and outreach opportunities through an organized seasonal Christian basketball league. The teams are open to men and women (16 years of age and above). All church members are welcomed/encouraged to join this ministry and fellowship.

Bowling:

This ministry provides fellowship and outreach opportunities through monthly bowling activity. This ministry coordinates the church’s participation in the SERVE Homeless Shelter’s Bowl-A-Thon Fundraiser. The Bowling Ministry meets 2nd and 4th Saturday at Bowl America at 7:00pm. All church members are welcomed/encouraged to join this ministry and fellowship.

Softball:

This ministry provides fellowship and outreach opportunities through an organized seasonal Christian softball league. The teams are open to men and women (16 years of age and above).  All church members are welcomed/encouraged to join this ministry and fellowship.

Youth/Children

Children’s Church:

This ministry provides, plans, and executes ‘youth focused’ worship, praise, and prayer on the First (1st) and Third (3rd) Sundays for First Baptist and Guest youth ages 5-12 years old. Children’s Church services consist of music ministry, biblical study, altar call, fun biblical studies activities and the preached Word of God. All youth ages 5-12 are welcomed/encouraged to join in worship during Children’s Church.

Nursery:

This ministry provides secure care and biblical instruction for all children ages 1-4 during worship services, events, and programs.

Youth:

This ministry works wit the youth of First Baptist and surrounding community in identified activities and worship, outreach, and mission opportunities to include community service, building the church float for the Christmas Parade, Youth Lock-Ins, Bible Studies, and monthly fellowship. All youth are in one of the following youth groups:

  • Angelic Group (Grades K-5): This youth group provides age appropriate sessions, activities, outings, and programs to develop an understanding of true Christian faith, discipleship, fellowship, and community service.  The Angelic Group meets every Second (2nd) Saturday of each month at 11:00am.
  • Paradise Group (Grades 6-8): This youth group provides age appropriate sessions, activities, retreats, outings, and programs to develop an understanding of true Christian faith, discipleship, fellowship and community service.  The Paradise Group also participates in the annual Middle School Eagle-Eyrie Retreat in Lynchburg, Virginia sponsored by the Baptist General Convention of Virginia. The Paradise Group meets every Third (3rd) Saturday of each month at 10:30am.
  • Torchbearers Group (Grades 9-12): This youth group provides age appropriate sessions, activities, retreats, outings, and programs to develop an understanding of true Christian faith, discipleship, fellowship and community service.  The torchbearers Group also participates in the annual High School Eagle-Eyrie Retreat in Lynchburg, Virginia sponsored by the Baptist General Convention of Virginia. The Torchbearers Group meets every 3rd Sunday after the 11:00am service.
